Skype application for Android now supports video calls

The world's most known Internet telephony service Skype has updated its application for the mobile operating system Android. Moreover, the new Skype 2.0 client is available as a free download from the Android Market and can be installed on smartphones running Android 2.1 or later.

No doubt, the main innovation in the new version of Skype for Android was to support two-way video calls, which can be implemented as in 3G, and via Wi-Fi connection. We also found an improved user interface and support for SMS functionality, as mentioned video calls are available so far only four mobile devices with Android 2.3.

Between these devices, according to Skype, smartphones today are Google Nexus S, HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo and Sony Ericsson Xperia pro, although in the near future on this list for sure there will be other products. In addition, users of the new version of Skype for Android can also make and receive video calls from Skype users from other platforms, like Apple iPhone, as well as computers running Mac OS X and Windows.
