Samsung announces a new portable PC, RV510 I7P-450. Sold 559 euros, this model 15 inches would have the role to offer to you, at a rather modest cost, the services of a good office automation portable PC. A rather traditional configuration and a completion to be discovered. Let us see what RV510 I7P-450 holds for us.
A sober look would say some. We will say, for our part, that the pace of the RV510 i7P-450 of Samsung is banal, unspecified but it is not badly finished… as a whole. No the brittleness of the hinges of the screen, nor plastics of the rest-hands and not of sign of weakness of the panel of the keyboard.
Keyboard which in addition proves pleasant to use. And since it is necessary to be critical, let us carry some complaints about the black cap brilliance dirtying like, on the left side, of the vulgar mask which masks connector HDMI absent from this configuration. More tedious, the tactile paving stone is rather badly placed. Usually, this one is centered on the bar of space. Here, it is in the center of the rest-hands (thus on the right than of habit). Result, it is frequent that one moves the cursor when text is accessed, by effleurant the tactile paving stone of the palm.
The 3D, the RV510 undoubtedly intended some to speak
For lack of a better graphic circuit, one cannot say that this RV510 I7P-450 is very player. The chip Intel GMA 4500MHD (256 Mo of shared video memory) fulfills however the role which is allotted to him within this machine dedicated to office automation. Even report on the side of the processor (Intel Pentium T4500) which, with its weak memory hiding place (1 Mo), will prefer to work under Word rather than to test itself with the video assembly in HD.
Moreover, its very average score of 868 points to the 3DMark 06 confirms well the weaknesses of this portable. With the total index of Windows 7 to insert the nail. Not very flattering, it is of 3,3 (out of 7,9 maximum), which corresponds in fact to the note obtained by the graphic part of play.
A portable for office automation
With its 4 Go of random access memory, fully exploited by the operating system 64-bits, the machine is so to speak never blown. The total note obtained under PCMark Vantage, 3 710, watch the versatility of this portable 15 inches. There still, the bad mark allotted by this tool for test relates to the part plays (1 906 points), whereas the parts productivity, music and communication respectively obtain notes of 3 321,4 511 and 4 341 points.
And it is well what one feels with use: the RV510 is at ease in its office automation environment with a very comfortable keyboard and small defects which do not have anything very awkward.
All goes well under the cap
During our tests, we did not note of rise in unpleasant temperature. In the worst of the cases, thanks to our software of torture which pushes a PC in its last cuttings off, we measured using our camera with thermal imagery of the maximum temperatures of 31 degrees on the level of the rest-hands and 42 degrees under the portable.
Idem side of the noise: our probe raised 33,9 dB at rests and 38,1 maximum dB. One will thus support rather well this ventilator. Nothing to announce, either, on the side of the electricity consumption who is of 13,9 Watts at rest and 46 Watts in load.
A beautiful screen and an average autonomy
The RV510 follows the tendency and has a rather traditional screen, in the direction where it posts a definition of image of 1 366 X 768 pixels and which it profits from a brilliant treatment, in fact called SuperBright Gloss in the Korean manufacturer. A coating shining, very sensitive to the reflections, which improves however the rate of contrast that we measured here with 1050:1, which is in the high average. Idem for the luminosity which measured (average on five points) with 233 cd/m2. A flagstone with rétroéclairage LED pleasant to look at, therefore.
On the other hand, on the side of autonomy, it is average: count 2 hours and 31 minutes in video reading with the luminosity of the screen at bottom and activated Wi-Fi.
This Samsung RV510 I7P-450 does not reserve a frank bad surprise. Its completion and its equipment are unspecified and, except the quality of its screen and the comfort of its keyboard, nothing will have really packed us. To handle this portable PC thus leaves a rather average impression, even, with a little retreat, the impression not to have some for its money. With nearly 600 euros, one expects all the same to have a true graphic circuit.
