The cost is too high for them but when they are given something like this, they take care of it until it can no longer function in the normal way. Indeed, they probably appreciate it much more than we do since we have become a throw-away society for sure. Third world countries take recycling to the end degree since they do not know if they will ever get the chance with this kind of equipment again.
Finally, to be politically correct, people really should use their equipment for longer than we usually do. Just changing the spares from time to time to keep it up to scratch is probably the best way that anyone could save money anyway. We all know this makes sense, but will we do this really?
